Tour guides in Türkiye are expected to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Anatolia’s historical and cultural heritage, including political history, architecture, art, mythology, daily life, belief systems, settlements, and archaeological findings. This knowledge spans a broad chronological scope, from the Palaeolithic period to the present. Proficiency in at least one foreign language is also essential, as it facilitates communication with international visitors and enables access to scholarly resources in other languages.
Although existing training programs address these competencies, there remains a notable deficiency in supporting materials. This book seeks to address that gap by presenting Anatolia’s cultural history in a chronological format, primarily focusing on the period up to the end of the Iron Age. Each chapter is supplemented with exercises in pronunciation, vocabulary, writing, and sentence construction, aimed at reinforcing the learner’s understanding and practical application of the material. The content is tailored to meet the professional needs of tour guides.
